Building a Community for Change
Last month, The Blue Bench launched Changing the Conversation 2020, an opportunity for metro Denver to take virtual action toward building a safer and more supportive community.
“At The Blue Bench, we aim to change the conversation around sexual violence—away from one that blames victims and condones violent behaviors, toward one that actively works to support survivors and end sexual assault, ” said Karmen Carter, executive director of The Blue Bench. “We were excited to launch Changing the Conversation 2020 and engage our community in this effort. Together, we can create a culture where survivors feel empowered to seek support and perpetrators are held accountable for their crimes.”
Changing the Conversation 2020 included a series of webinars on topics ranging from talking with youth about consent and the impact of trauma on the brain. Recordings of the webinars are posted on The Blue Bench website.
The organization also received $75,507 from 191 donors, surpassing the campaign goal of $75,000. Additionally, a generous donor has offered to match $25,000, bringing the total raised through the campaign to more than $100,000!
“We are overwhelmed by this generous show of support,” said Carter. “On behalf of The Blue Bench family, I would like to thank the donors, community members and sponsors who made Changing the Conversation 2020 a success!”
