As more and more of us emerge from pandemic isolation and begin to gather with friends and family, we at The Blue Bench want to make sure you have fun in a safe and welcoming environment. That’s why we’ve recently relaunched our Safe Bars program!
Safe Bars, a project of Collective Action for Safe Spaces (CASS) and Defend Yourself in Washington, DC, offers staff working in alcohol-serving establishments training to recognize and respond to incidents of sexual harassment and assault. Safe Bars’ highly-trained facilitators offer hands-on, team-oriented and tool-based training that staff can put into practice immediately.
“Safe Bars was a required course for the brewery I work for and honestly I think it should be a requirement industry-wide,” explained a recent participant. “Not only is the content of Safe Bars valuable for bar staff and bar owners but it also encourages necessary dialogue about sexual violence. I feel much more equipped to support my fellow staff and customers moving forward!”
