The Blue Bench (formerly RAAP) is metro Denver’s only comprehensive sexual assault prevention and survivor support center.
Since our founding in 1983, we have worked tirelessly to eliminate sexual assault and diminish the impact it has on individuals, their loved ones and our community.
Through issue advocacy, scientifically-supported prevention programs and a robust offering of low to no-cost client services including a 24-hour hotline, individual and group therapy and case management, The Blue Bench has helped hundreds of thousands of Denver-area people of all gender identities find the courage to move from victim to survivor.
Our Mission Statement
The Blue Bench is a community of survivors, allies, and advocates working to prevent sexual violence and build a safe and supportive metro Denver. We work collaboratively to provide accessible, survivor-centered support services and empowering education.
Our hope is to one day live in a world where sexual assault no longer exists; where there are no more victims, friends and families suffering in its wake. This is our hope. This is what inspires our efforts. And until that day comes, our work is not complete.
Inspired by the courage of one another – as survivors, activists, advocates and community leaders, The Blue Bench has helped hundreds of thousands of survivors.
Why "The Blue Bench"?
Our bench is meant to be shared. There is space for others to sit. In Colorado, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men will experience an attempted or completed sexual assault in their lifetime, and that can lead to feelings of isolation. We want them to know they are not alone and there will always be someone to sit with them here.
Our blue bench is a symbol: It's a safe place. A place for community conversation. A place that invites everyone to come as they are.
When you see our blue bench in the neighborhood, we want it to serve as a marker that in your community, survivors are believed and supported.
Our bench is welcoming, peaceful and inclusive.
