Safe Bars
Active Bystander Training for Hospitality Professionals
Safe Bars is an interactive bystander intervention training designed specifically for staff working in bars, restaurants, and other alcohol-serving establishments. This program empowers hospitality teams to recognize and respond to sexually inappropriate and violent behaviors, helping to create safer environments for both patrons and staff.
Participants explore how alcohol is often used to facilitate sexual violence, learn to identify patterns of perpetration, and practice a variety of intervention strategies to prevent and respond to harassment in real-time. Through discussion, scenario-based learning, and roleplay, staff build confidence in their ability to intervene safely and effectively.
Participants will learn to:
- Recognize sexual harassment and aggression in alcohol-serving environments
- Understand perpetrator behaviors and how alcohol is used to facilitate harm
- Identify warning signs and opportunities for safe intervention
- Develop empathy for survivors and understand the impact of sexual violence
- Prevent and respond to harassment in all directions: patron-to-patron, patron-to-staff, staff-to-staff, and staff-to-patron
- Apply the 5 D’s of bystander intervention and strengthen teamwork to ensure safety
- Build confidence and commitment to take action and support survivors
This training equips hospitality professionals with the tools to promote respectful, inclusive spaces—where safety is a shared priority and everyone plays a role in preventing sexual violence.
Perfect for alcohol-serving and hospitality professionals.
